Summer Courses are Done!
Hello my friends. Hello my family. And hello to any passerby. It's the middle of August. And at Shane English School Changzhou we are officially done with summer courses. Yes, there is a lot of excitement in these words.
Since Shane English School is a training center, the teachers don't get summer or winter breaks. You work more in the summer. And the pay is the same. And you do work in the summer. It's not all playing with the kids.
We are a little perturbed with the school due to the summer courses. They didn't sell enough courses in August as July so some teachers got 9 days off in a row. And Kristin got none in July. Matt got 4 days off. As you can see, there is a slight injustice in the scheduling.
After being with Shane English School Changzhou for 20 months, we have seen a handful of injustices. This is definitely not a school where all things are created equal. The general theme is "it is China".
After our Taiwan holiday at the end of this month, we are going to start looking at what will happen next year. Our contract with them expires in April 2020. But, we only need to give them a 3 months notice to leave. Sure, we will lose out on a flight reimbursement, but I think we can live with that.
We are still keen on seeing parts of Europe. Recently, a former Shane teacher who went back home to America, visited Croatia. She says it gorgeous. Maybe we can save money by not visiting as many countries..Well, yes, that's a fact. It's less money needed on flights or buses. The 'maybe' was more of a hmmm...what places do we really want to see.
We enjoy traveling. We looked at paragliding in Taiwan, but the places are a little far from where we are staying. We are the type of people who love adrenaline sports. Sky diving, hot air balloon, rock climbing, white water rafting.... yes yes yes!!
Matt has done the camping in the mountains trips. It's not really a Kristin thing. The hard bed, bugs, wild animals, and well lack of a bathroom that concerns her. I believe you all read the Kristin's bathroom fears post from last year.
Side bar for a moment. China has some of the dirtiest and smelliest bathrooms. There are Western toliets in the hotels and even sometimes in some malls. These toliets are rarely used. The squatters have piss all around where you stand. If you can't squat properly use a Western.
That's it for now. We will definitely post about Taiwan. See you later!
