Round 2: Summer Phonics Camps Done!

Image
And that's a wrap... Our second set of summer camp intensives are over. Thank goodness! Having 30 contact/teaching hours in a week is hard work! Having only 1 day off in a week is hard work. Not getting paid extra for the extra effort and lesson planning is a little disheartening.  Our contract allows for 100/mo. When they give you a week off between the 2 week sets, it isn't 100/mo. The bright side- the kids! I do believe kids can be anything they want to be. They are such sponges. With enough patience,  practice and time, well, they can learn anything. Hope you enjoy these pictures.

WRYE Gym in Changzhou

Image
Happy Thursday! Kris and I spend a lot of time in China at the gym. Now yes, I was teaching fitness at the Fowler Rec center, YMCA, and doing some PT with family members back in the States. So working out isn't a new thing. We love fitness! That feeling when you reach a PR.... It's also nice to have a little healthy competition. During our Crossfit days, we were known as Team WaWa. We've even both won medals in races in Georgia. Our gym in China is nice. It's spacious and has a nice mixture of machines and free weights. It has an aerobics and spin studio. If anyone in Changzhou is looking for a gym, visit WYRE near Auschan or the Shane HO school. Just an FYI, WYRE stands for "we run your errands". This of course makes us laugh. I do believe the Chinese business owners should consult with Native Speakers because the literal translations are hilarious sometimes!

Expat Start-Up Kit

Hello friends and family! We had been in China for about a week when we started this posting. Speed up to now 9 months in China. Finally, we are getting around to posting this. Looking back on our time here so far and what we have utilized, wished for, and finally broke down and purchased, here are some things we wish were suggested and/or provided to help make the transition smooth. So below you find a little Expat Start-Up Kit blog post. 1) Electric Kettle - This was one of the first things we purchased. With us being unable to consume China's tap water, we boil a kettle each morning. This is used to fill our water bottles, make instant noodles, and for morning coffee. We are finding this to be a must have. 2) Bus Pass - We walked everywhere for the first 3 months. We enjoy walking so it  has not really been an issue. However, the pavement is terrible when it rains, and this summer's heat was unbearable. Most bus trip are 1 Yuan each way (when paying with cash) or O.60 Y...
