Almost time for Taiwan

Hello friends and family!

It’s August. It’s so damn hot here in Changzhou, China. I know we took climate controlled buildings and central air for granted. Driving really is a privilege. We walk 10 minutes to our school, and we are dripping sweat. Our gym doesn’t like to use the AC and so you have extra sweat. Too bad it hasn’t made us lose weight. Hahaha!

Kristin was in Zhoushan, China for 5 nights 6 days on a summer camp trip for Shane English School. Spending 7 hours outside in the heat wasn’t fun. Also, the town isn’t foreigner friendly. She doesn’t like authentic Chinese food. And there wasn’t any Starbucks, KFC, McDs or Costa Coffee.

The fun news ..... Our summer vacation spot is Taiwan. We are staying in the Keelung area. We’ve read a lot of good things about Taiwan. We are looking forward to seeing the wonders. And hopefully, eating delicious food.  Last year, we went to Malaysia and had an awesome time in Langkawi. This years vacation isn’t as long, but (fingers crossed) just as fun.

We miss our families! We hope you are all having a fun summer. Your emails, Skype messages and Facebook messages mean a lot to us.

Let's talk about ESL Teaching

ESL teaching is not the career or job path we envisioned after college. We never wanted to be teachers. Teachers in America are devalued. American kids, especially teens, can be disrespectful.  Why would I want to subject myself to that? And, not that money is everything, but the pay isn't worth it either. Holiday Time!

Hello! Can you believe it's the end of 2018. 11 months have come and gone. 2019 is on the horizon. I love this time of year. There is Christmas and New Year's and all the hopes for a wonderful 12 more months. Christmas for us has changed from big family celebrations with white elephant gift exchange to teaching and playing with kids. The Shane Christmas show this year is slightly different. We had to come up with themes and plays or dances for the kids to perform. I'm sure they will be awesome. It makes for the month to go quick. Boredom is setting in. The weather has been rainy and chilly in Changzhou. So less outside time for us. We teach long weekend hours. In fact, we are the Senior Teachers with the most classes. Go figure, right? Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

Hello, We are on day 3 of vacation in Kota Kinabalu. First, we've been to Malaysia before. We went to Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi last year. That was a great trip so we decided to see the other side of Malaysia. The beaches are great. The water is clear blue. Of course, the resort is great.  Especially,  for the amount we paid for it. We've been posting photos on Wechat and Facebook, so if you are interested in those, check out those social media pages. It's off tourist season since Spring Festival is around the corner. So, it means not a lot of people. It's also jellyfish season so not a lot of people swimming in the beaches. Overall, for us, a great time to go. We walked through KK waterfront and city centre. We've seen Gaya and Sapi islands. We've seen monkeys and lizards. Even a jellyfish. Today we are going to the wildlife park to see the pygmy elephants.  Excited for this! Are they really super small? Or just like baby elephants that don't grow up?...
