Where to teach next?

Hello friends, family, and random passers!

Eleven months in China. WOW! Our one year contract is almost complete. We’ve been talking about what to do next for months. We want to travel, we want to go home to America, we want to continue teaching. Teaching really is fun. Watching the kids grow and become more confident is amazing. As they learn more and more, they want to communicate with you more.

Changzhou is an okay city in Jiangsu Province. It’s a hour fast train to Shanghai. It’s 5 hours fast train to Beijing. The metro is scheduled to open sometime in 2018. And it’s our first place to call home in China. We want something more though. We want a bigger city. However, we’d also prefer a prettier city. Cleaner air, bluer skies, maybe along the ocean.

With us having college degrees and being native speakers, we have had a lot of recruiters and job offers. The top contenders were an international kindergarten in Dalian, a training school in Ningbo, a an international boarding school in Beijing, and another boarding school with multiple sister schools and locations in Quanzhou.  Yes, we’ve been blessed with many opportunities.

We took a blind leap of faith coming to China. Especially since we weren’t travelers before. Our longest international trip before China was to Jamaica. Hahah! Looking back, it seems so silly to “brag” about that. Coming to China, we also thought we were unique. Quitting extremely good comfy jobs in the corporate world. Selling our house and belongings. Saying goodbye to friends and family and all the securities America has to offer. But, then we came to China and realized this is everyone’s story. Okay, okay...yes, that’s over generalizing. You do have the non native uneducated teachers. You have the educated but young and irresponsible teachers. However, there’s a big enough selection of teachers like us. It really humbles you. We aren’t unique or special.

Maybe after we are settled into a new school and city, we will blog about our experiences at Shane English School. There is good and bad to the school specifically, but in a summary, it is a training school. For those out there who have worked in a training school or done enough research, you understand that statement.

We are thinking a year and longer out for what’s next. What will look good on the resume, what will allow us to save enough money, what will give us more time for travel....

To leave our readers a bit excited, we are planning a trip home in February!!!! Hopefully, we can see all our friends and family. Our home base in the States is Florida. Start planning our FL vacations so you can come visit!

Until next time! zajian and xie xie.
